Travi_Bee's Game Genre Tier List

Hello and welcome to my shitty opinion of what Game Genres are good, and which ones are...not so much. As you can see below, I have compiled a list through many, MANY hours of extensive, backbreaking research. Totally not just 15 minutes screwing around on Tier-maker. Regardless, the opinions stated herein are to be considered straight fact, and If you are to disagree with any of them then you will be subjected to a long day of knowing that you're wrong. As you can see by looking at the list, we've got a pretty decent variety of genres to sort through, so In stead of going genre by genre, I'll go tier by tier and give my reasoning for why stuff is in there. Let's get to it!

So starting with the S tier, we have the good old FPS, battle royals, and Survival horror games. the easiest way to explain this tier is simple, these genres are what I have the most of, and what I think I'm best at. The FPS and Battle Royale come first because that's pretty much what Apex Legends, my favourite game, is. I even have a Displate (a metal wall poster) of one of my favourite characters from Apex which is an FPS game.

So if that doesn't show some favouritism, then I don't know what will. I also own a few Survival horror games I like to play with my friends. The S tier was reserved for the types of games I find the MOST enjoyment in playing, solo or with a group. This tier is where the games I make the most memories on are gonna be found.

Next up, A tier: Still really good, but not the main or most recent games for me. Don't get me wrong, A is still great in my books. When I think of this tier, Open world single player games like Ghost of Tsushima and Dying Light 2 come to mind for those Action adventure single payer experiences. These are probably games that I would play through and come back to just to experience them again. It's safe to say that a good amount of games in these top two tiers I have completed 100% in one way or another, simply because they were THAT good to me. these types of games have a very high replay value, and I can see myself playing them again and again. I'd also probably go as far as to recommend them to others if they were looking for a time-sink.

B is the next tier, where we get to the things I'd rather not play if I had the choice. I can really only see myself looking at these games if I was bored, or if I was to play with a good friend. Even then, I'd be kind of reluctant to boot any one of these types of games up. Take a look at my (physical) game collection:

Not ONE of ANY of the genres in the list are here, simply because I just don't find them interesting. To be fair, I've never really given these genres a whole lot of time to get good at, so that may play a bit of a factor in my opinion. However, my point still stands for the sake of consistency and because this is my blog.

Moving on the C tier and the games I will probably NEVER touch because they suck. I know it isn't just me who thinks this way, but don't most if not all sport games feel the exact same? Basketball, football, hockey, whatever it may be, they come out with new games every year. but like... why? It's not like the sport has changed since the last years game came out and did the exact same thing. at least with other games that come out year after year like call of duty or something, they have SOMETHING new to offer. A new twist, time period, a reboot. with sports games it's just "it's like last years game about Hockey, but it looks SLIGHTLY more realistic." See what I mean? Eventually, we'll get to the point where they should just update the games to accommodate new players in the leagues, and maybe rule changes if that even happens in sports. The same can kind of be said for racing games, however they have a wider range of ways to approach it. For example, you can have a racing game about F1 or Nascar style racing, or you can have a game with a story to it like Need for Speed. that being said, either way you look at the different avenues of game, eventually they all boil down to the same thing: racing and cars. That's kind of it. But what do I know? with all this Metaverse talk nowadays maybe they'll both have a new spin to em in a coupe years that I will genuinely enjoy. but until then, to the C tier with em.

I'm not even going to justify my placement of mobile games in D tier, I don't count that as "Gaming", it's entertainment or a distraction. This list was to focus more on what platforms you SHOULD think about when it comes to gaming: Console and PC. Speaking of which, just in case you were wondering, I am on PS4 at the moment, so maybe that could've had an influence on my decisions by just a bit.

So what was the point of the list? Well, other than my perfectly-consturcted opinion that has no biases or flaws whatsoever, it serves as a way for you to see my overall stance on the current state of games as a whole in todays market. Why is it that I decide that the genres get graded the way they did? All jokes aside, this is an opinion post and shouldn’t really be seen as much more.

As a final note, theres a YouTube video that touches on the basics of what you just read and more backstory of the "why" to this blog, you can find the link to it HERE

So yeah, That all for now. Let me know what you think in the email response below. Thanks for reading, and see you next time :).
